How to Prepare Your Lawn for Spring

It’s time to prep your lawn for spring so you have beautiful green grass all summer long. Luxury Landscape Supply has the sod you need to fill in the dead spots. We also have the perfect fertilizer to ensure your lawn is healthy and lush. Let’s talk about the steps to take to prepare your lawn for the spring so you and your family can enjoy it, including the pets.

Do Some Clean-Up

Take a good look at your lawn and clean up the havoc wreaked by winter storms. You probably have tree branches, leaves, and neighborhood debris on top of the lawn that need to be raked. You want to clear the lawn of all debris to make certain it’s ready for the next steps in the preparation process. Cleaning the lawn also allows you the chance to see the portions of the lawn that need some extra TLC or need to be re-sod to give you a lush and full lawn in the summer.

Prevent Weeds Before They Start

Now is the perfect time to prevent weed growth before it starts. There are products on the market called pre-emergent herbicides. These products are designed to stop weed growth from starting in the first place. As the wind blows weed seeds onto your lawn, the pre-emergent herbicide ensures these weed seeds cannot germinate and grow into unsightly weeds. They prevent weed growth to save you the back-breaking work of weeding your lawn every spring.

Prevent Fungal Growth, Too

If you have had problems with fungal growth in the past, it’s a safe bet you’ll have problems with it again this spring, especially during spring showers when everything gets wet. As with the pre-emergent herbicide, you can apply a fungicide on your lawn now to prevent fungal growth later. This ensures your lawn bounces back from the winter months green and healthy. If you haven’t had a problem with fungus in the past, you should be able to skip this step.

Fertilize the Lawn

Finally, now is a great time to fertilize your lawn so it has the added nutrients it needs to come out of hibernation green and lush. We carry compost here at Luxury Landscape Supply, and our compost has a natural pesticide in it to help prevent pests from eating your lawn. This gives you an added layer of protection against the things that can damage your lawn.
