What is slate?
Slate is a fine-grained, layered rock formed from sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. It is formed by heat and pressure being applied to shale-like rock.
NOTE: Both slate chips and slate path occasionally have white quartz chips in the mix that come from the quarry.
SLATE CHIPS
Looking for a Gray color? These large but thin pieces of slate lay flat and produce a nice texture for your landscape. Chips range in size from approximately 1″ to 3″ in diameter.
SLATE PATH
Slate Path is the smaller size of our Slate Chips. Sizes range from 1/4″ to 1/2″. Slate Path packs down very well and therefore is excellent for pathways and walkways.
